Who We Are
GECELCA 3 S.A.S. E.S.P., is a Colombian mixed private-public utilities company incorporated as a simplified joint-stock company, subject to the residential public utilities regime and to the regulations contained in private law. It was created by private document on August 26, 2009.
Under the operation contract, Gecelca participates in the Wholesale Electricity Market with the generation assets of its subsidiary Gecelca 3, formed by the units Gecelca 3 and Gecelca 3.2.

We are the first power plant in Colombia to use combustion technology with fluidized-bed boilers, which allows using a natural resource such as non-exportable coal from the department of Córdoba, encouraging the sustainable and formal development of the mining industry.
We have two units: Gecelca 3 and Gecelca 3.2 with a net installed capacity of 437 MW.
The units have a remote monitoring system via web to track the processes from other locations within the plant and from remote sites when required.
We represent 8% of the National Thermal Park, covering 5% of the energy required in the country, providing reliability to the National Interconnected System.

GECELCA participated in the Reliability Charge auction for the 2012 – 2013 period, achieving the Allocation of Firm Energy Obligations of the Gecelca 3 unit.

The Ministry of Environment, Housing and Territorial Development grants GECELCA the Environmental License for the Gecelca 3 Thermoelectric Project.

– GECELCA 3 is declared SPECIAL PERMANENT FREE TRADE ZONE GECELCA 3.
– Began construction of the Gecelca 3 Unit.
– GECELCA participated in the second Reliability Charge auction, being awarded the project GECELCA 3.2.
